13. Glowing Soul - CandleboxIn THE WATERBOY, Adam Sandler plays Bobby Boucher, a
31-year-old Cajun social outcast with an overprotective mother whose job
is as an abused waterboy on a college football team. When a new coach
takes over and allows Boucher to fight back against his tormentors, years of
pent-up rage burst out and turn him into the team's most devastating tackler
in a number of hilarious, non-stop situations. The accompanying soundtrack mixes songs relating to Boucher's rural
background (CCR's "Born On The Bayou," John Mellencamp's "Small
Town") and material intended for pre-game inspiration (Rush's "Tom
Sawyer," Lenny Kravitz's "Always On The Run.") Keeping the mix funky
are Earth Wind & Fire's "Let's Groove" and The Doors' "Peace Frog." Of
the newer bands, Goldfinger and Big Head Todd & The Monsters keep
things interesting by submitting covers of Spiral Staircase's "More Today
Than Yesterday" and John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" respectively. The
highlights on this soundtrack include original songs by The Candyskins (the
quirky "Feed It") and Lifelong featuring Incident ("Doin' My Thang," driven
by a sample of "Best Of My Love.")
